Hi all! This is something I should have done ages ago but better late than never! I’d decided to create a youtube channel so now you can view all the great video songs that I weren’t able to blip or have blipped (on Blip.fm)and more. You can subscribe to this channel to further stay in touch. Don’t be discouraged by the lack of videos, I’ll be adding more video songs and different categories of music over time. For now, Enjoy! Don’t forget to subscribe!

Before we begin, let’s understand the definition of Dark Ambient. Dark ambient (wiki def) is a sub-genre of ambient music that features foreboding, ominous, or discordant overtones. This music emerged in the 1980s and 1990s with the introduction of new synthesizer and sampling technology in the electronic music genre and other technical advances in music. Dark ambient is an unusually diverse genre, related to industrial music, noise, ethereal wave, and black metal, yet generally free from derivatives and connections to other genres or styles. Dark ambient evolved partially based on several of Brian Eno’s early collaborations that had a distinctly dark or discordant edge, notably “An Index of Metals” (from Evening Star (1975), a collaboration with Robert Fripp that incorporated harsh guitar feedback, the ambient pieces on the second half of David Bowie’s Low (1977) and “Heroes”, Fourth World, Vol. 1: Possible Musics (1980), a collaboration with Jon Hassell, and particularly the fourth installment of his ambient series, On Land (1982), which had many deeply spatial elements, often utilizing field recordings to foreboding effect. An important early precursor of the genre was Tangerine Dream’s early double-album Zeit, which was unlike most of their subsequent albums in abandoning any notion of rhythm or definable melody in favor of a “darkly” sinuous, occasionally disturbing effect.

My definition of dark ambient: To some, dark ambient could be defined as dark, “creepy”, spooky, ghostly, evil, scary-ritual type ambient music. Some dark ambient are made with added experimental sounds, like “heart beats”, “creaking doors”, etc. The type of music you often hear in scary movies and some video games like Resident Evil, Fatal Frame or Silent Hill. Dark, disturbing images may come to mind. Though, just like any other style of music, dark ambient varies.

I don’t feel that all dark ambient is disturbing as many may think. Infact, I find some dark ambient quite peaceful, even meditative (at least to me). A couple of my favorite dark ambient songs are:

Ghosts Of Breslau – Scontrum II,
The Caretaker: The Haunted Ballroom,
Ctacik: Alai Duchy
Lustmord – The Outer Shadows

I would love to read your thoughts on this topic!

Although I’m highly fond of blipping soft, slow meditative, new age and ambient music, I’ll also start playing a lot more soft vocal, ambient trance/techno, slow/slow jazz, classical, lounge, chill etc. Many of you probably have noticed that I have been blipping a lot of this lately. There’s plenty of those styles of music that posses that “meditative feel” to it. I’ll always try looking for the best sounds that pertain to total relaxation.

I would say probably out of any other style of music, I prefer listening mostly to meditative/ambient mixed type songs. After some music sound research, I found some tracks that I highly recommend to those who are having trouble sleeping, suffer from insomnia or just looking to relax.

First off, What is Reiki? – Reiki (pronounced Ray Key) is a combination of two Japanese words rei and ki meaning universal life energy. Reiki is an ancient laying-on of hands healing technique that uses the life force energy to heal, balancing the subtle energies within our bodies. Reiki addresses physical, emotional, mental and spiritual imbalances. This healing art is an effective delivery system. The Reiki practitioner serves as a vessel that supplies healing energies where they are most needed. Reiki’s ki-energies flow out of the practitioner’s body through the palms of the hands while they are touching the recipient’s body.

Music plays a crucial role in orienting one’s subconscious. In a Reiki session, it isn’t just the practitioner who needs to have an open mind. The client or the patient has to be inceptive of the healing that will take place. As such, the chakras have to be open. The mind should be willing to accept the rebirth that will soon take place.

The right music is conducive to a faster and more effective healing environment. The wrong music, on the other hand, may block the energy instead of inviting it in. As such, a soothing, relaxing music is normally used inside the Reiki therapy room. From there, the patient will be led into a place where it is calm and quiet.

While there are many relaxing soundtracks that are easily available today, there are a few that are especially made for a Reiki session. Such music can be used to help summon the energy, while making your client more yielding to its effects. A relaxing song may be good enough. However, it might not be able to provide the exact needs of Reiki practitioners.

The use of music in a Reiki session is important. In fact, you can’t effectively conduct a therapy without it. This is because of the fact that music, on its own, is a type of energy. As such, you should be using the right one in order to help you with the technique or symbol that you are trying to use on your patient. The rhythm of music allows your body to work in tune with the Reiki inside you.

However, there is no formula for right Reiki music. The proper music is simply the one that feels perfect for you. As a practitioner, you will know immediately what type of music can lead the spirit to greatness and which one can cause distractions. It is even possible to use live music from an instrument if you have the resources for that.
